The Playstation blog continues its feature of new releases for the Playstation Network and has let loose some details regarding an up coming PSN release of Crash Commando. EPOS apparently is a small almost independent like developer in Sweden with a 5-man team. Here are some nifty features currently in development for the title and a look at the inspiration for it.
The idea
The initial idea for Crash Commando was inspired by a lot of different titles over the last two decades. One game that springs to mind is JETPAC on the old Commodore VIC-20. The challenge was to create a fun game that clearly flirts with the retro genre, giving the players the opportunity to play in teams or against each other in real-time, incorporating the depth of a modern game while maintaining the retro core values.
Features at a glance:
Frantic, adrenaline-pumping gameplay with exaggerated, slapstick violence!
Fight on the ground and in the air, using jetpacks or in vehicles!
Choose between several varying weapons, super weapons and stationary weapon systems!
8 maps!
1-12 players online play!
Team-based and deathmatch game modes!
Single-player vs bots game modes!
Trophies!
Online ranking boards!
Player Profile with persistent stats and Duty Records!
Playstation 3 owners hating the fact that you have to replay your games for trophies, may rest easy now. From January 2009 onward, developers must include trophies in all future titles. This coming from Videogamer, who seems to have gotten official word from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
Today a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson confirmed that this information is accurate, stating: "Yes from Jan 09 all games must have trophies."
This will then eliminate the need for a patch to add in trophies.
Konami has just announced a new expansion pack slated for Metal Gear Online should give you a reason to jump back into the game. The expansion is so aptly titled, MEME will feature new characters and gameplay modes to add to the already epic online Metal Gear adventure.
The MEME EXPANSION unveils two new special characters, which are playable for the first time. Liquid Ocelot enters the fray with the ability to manipulate the Sons of the Patriots’ lock system using his Guns of the Patriots skills, and can also deactivate the weaponry of a targeted for within Metal Gear Online’s multi-player modes. Similarly, Mei Ling comes into play with three unique attributes, including the Trench Mortar weapon, Soliton Sonar capabilities, and the means to transfix enemies.
Three new maps have also been created, with the rough, uneven industrial elements of Silo Sunset, the dense foliage of Forest Firefight and a snow-blown deserted factory called Winter Warehouse available for the first time. The download also implements a number of new rules, which are also now available without the MEME EXPANSION update. A new ‘No Headshot’ setting allows players to attribute the same level of damage when shot in the head to that of a regular body shot. ‘Stealth Death Match’ allows users to compete with the stealth elements switched on automatically; while the ‘Interval’ setting allows used to practice and chat with each other within the battlefield, without their ranking or records being adversely affected.
Age of Booty his now available on the Playstation Network according to Capcom. Age of Booty was worked on by Certain Affinity and it is a downloadable real-time multiplayer strategy game that puts players in command of a pirate ship with the goal of destroying enemies and capturing towns.
